The currency of Ukraine is the Hryvnya, with one Hryvnya equalling 100 Kopiyok. Notes come in denominations of UAH200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1, with coins coming in denominations of 50, 25, 10, 5, 2 and 1 Kopiyok. Currency can be exchanged at specialist booths in banks and in the street – all receipts should be kept in case they are required by customs or other officials. It is not recommended that money is exchanged anywhere other than official outlets. Traveller’s cheques are not widely accepted – if they must be used, however, they should be in US Dollars as this is the currency most likely to be accepted. ATMs are rare, and credit and debit cards are not widely accepted, save for some hotels and restaurants. The import of foreign currency is allowed up to US$15,000, with amounts over this needing a special customs form.
